As community consultations for the National Development Plan (NDP) 2045 continue across the islands, a new phase of the process is now beginning — one that invites experts and professionals to help shape how the Maldives will grow over the next two decades.
The upcoming sectoral roundtables will bring together people from different fields — from tourism and fisheries to education, health, environment, housing, and more — to discuss what each sector needs to build a stronger, fairer, and more sustainable Maldives.
In total, there will be 20 roundtables exploring 62 different thematic areas, covering every part of national life. Details of these discussions are now available on the NDP website.
While the island consultations under Kurimagu Salla are still ongoing, the team leading the NDP says clear themes are already emerging from the voices of citizens and the data collected so far.
Across the country, people are calling for better connectivity between islands and regions, stronger local economies, improved service delivery, and a greater sense of community and social cohesion. Many have also stressed the importance of preserving the islandness of the Maldives — protecting its natural environment and ensuring that development remains sustainable and in harmony with the country’s unique island ecosystems.
These ideas will help guide the roundtables as experts work to turn people’s hopes and ideas into clear national priorities and actions. The process aims to ensure that the final plan truly reflects what Maldivians want for their families, islands, and future.
The NDP 2045 process is designed to be citizen-centred, consultative, and evidence-based — combining what people say, what experts know, and what data shows to build a long-term vision for a more resilient and prosperous Maldives.
Maldivians with relevant experience or expertise who wish to contribute can now register online to join the sectoral roundtables through the official NDP portal at https://ndp.nexia.mv/get-involved/roundtable.
